Card of the Day

Welcome to the Card of the Day for the Core Set release. For the next several weeks, we'll be updating this page each work day (Monday-Friday) with a different card in the Core Set.

Day 21

Valar Morghulis
Plot
2 Gold, 0 Initiative, 0 Claim
Limit 1 per plot deck.
When revealed, kill all characters in play.

See you at GenCon.

Day 20

Westeros Bleeds
Event
Dominance: Kneel 4 influence to discard all characters from play.

Characters have never been safe while playing the Game of Thrones, and they won't be in the Core Set, either. Westeros Bleeds is back, and thanks to some fine graphic adjustments on the artwork, the card is looking better than ever!

Condemned by the Realm
Plot
5 Gold, 3 Initiative, 1 Claim
When revealed, choose an opponent. Then, that opponent must choose and kill a character he or she does not control, if able.

In the melee, there are a number of scenarios upon which an alliance could form. Sometimes you need to give a little, to get something back in return. And sometimes you just have to trust that your opponent is seeing the same threat as you…

Day 19

Drogon
4 Gold, 4 Strength, Military, Power
No attachments. Stealth.

Any Phase: Pay 2 gold to choose a character. Until the end of the phase, that character gets -1 STR and is killed if its STR is 0. (Limit once per phase.)

"Machine Gun" Drogon is back… with a twist.

Day 18

Blockade
0 gold, 4 initiative, 1 claim
The income on each opponent's revealed plot card is reduced to 0.

Blockade… 'cause if I'm not marshalling, no one is marshalling.

Day 17

Support of the Kingdom

After you win a Power challenge, choose any gold or influence producing location controlled by an opponent, and take control of that location.

Support of the Kingdom provides some new across-the-board location control. It's in the Baratheon deck to take advantage of their power-challenge abilities.

Day 16

Bran Stark
2 Gold, 1 Strength
Plot: Kneel Bran Stark to choose and reveal a new plot card.

Westeros Edition Bran Stark has come back, and House Stark is ready to reveal two plots a round.

Day 15

Littlefinger
5 Gold, 3 Strength, Intrigue, Power
Stealth
Littlefinger gets +1 STR for each gold token in your gold pool.

+2 gold

Planning Ahead
3 gold, 0 initiative, 1 claim

Skip the taxation phase this round.

Littlefinger is the first card shown that gets a direct benefit from having extra gold in your pool. Planning Ahead lets you, well, "plan ahead" by skipping the taxation phase, where players would normally return all of their unspent gold to the treasury.

Day 14

Daario Naharis
3 Gold, 3 Strength, Military, Intrigue Power.

Deadly.
At the beginning of the dominance phase, discard 1 gold from any player's gold pool or discard Daario Naharis from play.

We've spruced up Ice and Fire Daario with an extra icon, deadly, and an alteration of his ability - it now affects gold instead of power on characters.

Day 13

Chella, Daughter of Cheyk
3 Gold, 3 Strength, Military

Response: After you win a challenge in which at least 1 Clansman character participated, pay X gold to choose and return a location to its owner's hand, where X is the printed gold cost of that location.

Chella is not only an amazing card, especially since gold is going to start serving a lot more purpose, but she also has my favorite art from the new set. The detail is absolutely phenomenal.

Day 12

Motley
0 Gold.

Attached character's controller must give you 1 gold token from his or her gold pool each time he or she wishes to declare attached character as an attacker or defender, or trigger attached character's ability.

A completely new card from the core set — Motley is some great gold and character control all rolled into one 0-cost attachment.

Day 11

Street of Steel
0 Gold

Limit 1 per deck.
Marshalling: Kneel Street of Steel to lower the cost of the next character with a military icon you play this phase by one.

The old icon-based reducers are coming back, with a limit of one per deck.

Day 10

Ser Barristan Selmy
4 Gold, 4 Strength, Military, Power.

No attachments except Weapon. Renown.

After Ser Barristan Selmy enters play, all players shuffle their discard piles back into their decks.

Tourney for the Hand
3 Gold, 6 Initiative, 1 Claim.

Each of your Knight characters gets +1 STR and is immune to opponent's character abilities.

Ser Barristan Selmy is showing a new example of some universal recursion, while Tourney for the Hand shows shows some old-school Knight synergy with a modern twist.

Day 9

Blood of the Dragon
3 Gold.

While participating in a challenge, attached character gets +6 STR and gains the Dragon trait.

Changed the card slightly to grant the addition of the Dragon trait, making for some great synergy with some of the other dragons.

Day 8

Lannisport Brothel
2 Gold.

Response: After a knelt character stands during the standing phase, kneel Lannisport Brothel to kneel that character.

Lannisport Brothel brings some more location-based Lannister kneel effects into standard, along with a new look.

Day 7

Mutual Cause
3 Gold, 3 Initiative, 2 Claim
When revealed, if you have more than one opponent, choose an opponent. You and that opponent cannot declare power challenges against one another this round.

Today's spoiler is the first melee focused plot card we've seen in the game. Mutual Cause adds a little more focus to your power challenges, and in conjunction with the titles, protects you a bit more from getting ganged up on. That two claim will be nice for sealing that win…

Day 6

Ice
2 Gold, Attachment.

Stark character only.
Challenges: While attached character is participating in a challenge, kneel and discard Ice from play (cannot be saved) to choose and kill another participating character.

Made it unique, Stark character only, and cleaned up the wording, but Eddard's two-handed sword of death is coming back from Westeros.

Day 5

Ghost
3 Gold, 3 Strength, Military.

Stealth.
Jon Snow is immune to events.
Response: Kneel Ghost to save a Night's Watch character from being killed or discarded from play.

Jon Snow
3 Gold, 3 Strength, Military, Power.

No attachments except Weapon.
Ghost is immune to events.
Response: After you win a challenge in which Jon Snow or Ghost participated, Jon Snow claims 1 power.

Ah, the dynamic duo. Saving each other, claiming power off eachother, and giving each other immunities. Ghost and Jon Snow, the first entirely new cards introduced from the core set, make quite the pair.

Day 4

Dance with Dragons
Any Phase: Kneel 1 influence to search your deck for a Dragon card, reveal it to all players, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your deck.

Couple of changes here from the Ice and Fire era Dance with Dragons: It's now any phase, fueling Targaryen ambush, and it's now using influence instead of gold. And, of course, the gorgeous new artwork.

Day 3

Shae
Two gold, one strength, intrigue.

Challenges: Kneel Shae to choose and kneel a character controlled by a player with more power than you.

Shae first graced us with her presence at the first Gencon, as the participation promo. Five years later, she's making a comeback.

Day 2

Renly Baratheon
Three gold, two strength, military, intrigue, power. Immune to opponent's character abilities.
Any Phase: Kneel 1 influence to stand Renly Baratheon.

Renly from the Valyrian days. Tricon, standing, and immunity — what more could you want?

Day 1

Eddard Stark
Four gold, three strength, military, power. Renown. Deadly. Stalwart. Eddard Stark Claims 1 power when he comes into play.

Eddard Stark is a revisitation of the old Westeros version, with several new enhancements to round him out: Deadly, Stalwart, and a Noble Crest.
